Principal

Requirements

  • At least 6 years’ working experience in the field of competition policy or related topics 
  • Proven ability to manage complex research/consulting projects
  • Potential to extend E.CA’s existing customer database
  • A PhD or equivalent degree is advantageous
  • Strong empirical/econometric background is a plus
  • Excellent command of English
  • German knowledge at minimum B1 level is advantageous

As a principal you will steer and supervise the project work. In this role you will bring cutting-edge research to a case and provide a novel yet robust and balanced view of the matter. Condensing the details of the facts to their essentials is part of the exciting challenges which lies ahead.

As a principal you will also represent E.CA to the broader competition policy community, shaping E.CA’s image as a conceptual leader and trusted consultancy. As a manager you will play an important role in the project work. Your responsibilities include communication with the client as well as the guidance and support of your junior colleagues. Junior Economist

For our Brussels (or alternatively Berlin) office, we are looking for Junior Economists who are interested in gaining practical economic analysis experience before pursuing their Master or PhD in economics. You will be working on the largest European cartel case and get deep insights into complex case work. The position is limited to one year.

Requirements

  • Undergraduate degree in economics or a related field
  • Basic knowledge of standard statistical software
  • Drive and ambition to apply and develop research skills
  • Proven ability to meet tight deadlines
  • Very good command of English
  • German knowledge at minimum B1 level as well as knowledge of further European languages is advantageous

Responsibilities and tasks

  • Economic analysis and advice in private litigation for a defendant in the largest European cartel case
  • Data processing and analysis in Stata as part of damage and pass-on assessments
  • Written presentation and graphical illustration of analyses
  • Critical analysis of economic expert reports
  • Coordination of submissions across many proceedings in various European jurisdictions

Internship positions

Requirements internships (6 months with possibility of extension as Junior Economist or Economist) – preferably in Brussels

  • Undergraduate or postgraduate economics student or Master of economics
  • Basic knowledge of standard statistical software
  • Very good command of English
  • German knowledge at minimum B1 level as well as knowledge of further European languages is advantageous
  • Valid work permit

As an intern you will be integrated in one of our case teams and be in charge of literature research, data gathering and data analysis. You will have the chance to apply your acquired knowledge and gain insight into the work of a professional economic consulting team. After 6 months, there is a possibility to continue as Junior Economist on the same case team.
